Wanted: masterpieces in denim

Without a doubt, there are only very few people in the world who haven’t encountered this sturdy, blue fabric. No wonder: it is used for everything from trousers and jackets to shoes and sofas. Beyond wardrobe and household staples, denim is also popular with many artists and designers. And they are precisely who we are looking for now.

An incredible transformation
The programme accompanying our special exhibition “Denim – stylish, practical, timeless” includes a grand design competition. As you can imagine, it is all about the blue fabric that jeans and dreams are made of. The objective of the competition is to turn a basic denim drawstring backpack into an imaginative, unique design piece. There is only one rule: you still need to be able to carry the bag on your back after its incredible transformation is complete.

Join in and enjoy yourself
This competition is all about having fun: entering is free and straightforward. All you need is a denim drawstring backpack, which you can get at the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel from 17 October 2020. Once you have your bag in your hands, you are ready to unleash your creativity, imagination and enthusiasm.

Play along to win
We will be exhibiting your contributions in our display window from 30 January until 21 March 2021. If we receive more than 100 pieces of art, we will carry out a preselection round to avoid running out of space. Between 30 January and 21 February 2021, the public will get to vote for their favourite denim drawstring backpacks. The masterpieces with the most points in their category win.

4th–10th prize: a Fatboy beanbag in light-blue denim. Value: CHF 200.00.

 

From 11th prize: 2-in-1 denim toy bag and play mat. Value: CHF 30.00.

 

Category B | Teenagers aged 14 and over and adults

1st prize: denim jacket and miniskirt by Marques ’ Almeida, acid-washed with fringes.
Value: CHF 500.00.

2nd prize: ruffled denim minidress by Current/Elliott x The Vampire’s Wife.
Value: CHF 300.00.

3rd prize: denim plateau sandals by Miu Miu. Value: CHF 200.00.

4th–10th prize: Novel™ travel bag by Herschel. Value: CHF 100.00.

From 11th prize: thermos cool bag in denim blue by Cilio. Value: CHF 30.00.

There is no cash alternative. Prizes are non-exchangeable. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the competition. The judges’ decision is final. All winners will be notified personally. Employees of the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel and their relatives cannot enter the competition. All participants will be notified personally about the results of the competition by 21 March 2021. All drawstring backpacks submitted as entries will remain the property of the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel until after the voting process. All prizes in category A (children) and category B (teenagers and adults) can be collected together with the submitted drawstring backpacks from 30 March to 16 April 2021, Tuesdays to Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays, and neither prizes nor bags can be collected then. The collection period specified is binding for all categories. If you do not collect your prize and denim drawstring backpack before 5.30 p.m. on 16 April 2021, you will lose your claim to both.
