Seeking bag artists
They are small or large, soft or hard, angular or round, fluffy or smooth. They have a simple handle or a shiny gold chain and can be called Falabella, Pompadour, Kelly bag or Ridicule. Very few objects in everyday life can be found in as many forms and designs as the bag – especially a woman’s handbag.
Bags full of surprises
In honor of our special exhibition Bags – Icons & investments we are holding a big competition where you can bag attractive prizes. We are looking for the fanciest, funniest and most romantic ideas on how to turn a normal bag into a work of art. What’s possible is shown by the bags in the exhibition. So, if you want to pack some inspiration into your bag before you take part in the competition, why not visit the special exhibition?
Participation is easy
Participation is both simple and free. All you need is the official bag, which will be ready for pickup at the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel starting 19 October 2019. After that, imagination is needed. But beware: in the end, the creation should be able to stand on its own. If it fulfills this requirement, the artwork should be given to us by 15 December 2019 at the latest.
Take part in the decision
The creations will be on display in our display window from 25 January to 22 March 2020. If more than 100 bags are submitted, there will be a prejudging session for reasons of space. The audience will select the winners from 25 January to 16 February 2020. Voting can be done online or with cards available at the museum. The creations that score the most points in voting win.

Category A | Children up to 13 years of age
1st prize: Adventure trip to Europa-Park for one child and one adult, including overnight stay and food voucher. Value: CHF 500
2nd prize: Maxi game bag filled with 12 outdoor games. Value: CHF 300
3rd prize: Medium game bag filled with 9 outdoor games. Value: CHF 200
4th–10th prize: Fjällräven Kanken backpack, for school, sport and leisure – the practical accessory for every day. Value: CHF 100
From 11th prize: Mölkky Mini, wooden game of skill with 12 numbered pins and a throwing pin. Value: CHF 20
Category B | Youth 14 years and older and adults
1st prize: LOVE leather bag from our special exhibition Bags – Icons & investments. Designer: Les Petits Joueurs, Paris. Value: CHF 500
2nd prize: Champagne Bucket Crossbody Bag from our special exhibition Bags – Icons & investments. Designer: Kate Spade, New York. Value: CHF 300
3rd prize: Früchtekorb bag from our special exhibition Bags – Icons & investments. Designer: Mary Frances, San Francisco. Value: CHF 200
4th–10th prize: Luxury picnic basket fully equipped with plates, glasses, cutlery, etc. Value: CHF 100
From 11th prize: Stylish belly bag with adjustable waist. Value: CHF 20
No cash will be paid out. The competition prize cannot be exchanged. There will be no correspondence concerning the competition. Legal recourse is barred. All winners will be personally informed. Employees of the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel and their family members do not qualify to participate. All participants will be personally informed of the competition results by 15 March 2020. Submitted bag creations remain the property of the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel until voting is concluded. All prizes in the children and adult categories, except the three main prizes (the bags which are part of the special exhibition), can be retrieved from Tuesday 31 March to Thursday 9 April 2020, or Tuesday through Friday between 10.00 and 17.30, along with the submitted hat creations. The three main prizes in the adult category can be picked up along with the submitted bag creations from Tuesday, 14 April to Tuesday, 28 April 2020, or Tuesday through Friday between 10.00 and 17.30. The museum is closed on Mondays and pickup will not be possible. The following applies for all categories and specified collection time periods: collection after the specified time is no longer possible and any claim to the prize and the bag creation will expire.
