Museums Night 2017

The next Museums Night will take place on Friday 20th January, 2017.

Explore the mysterious world of fish plates and plunge into an aquatic world of sea creatures. All this and many other amazing attractions await you on Museums Night. You can also participate in a variety of activities.

Action painting. The display window of the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel is transformed into an art studio. French artist Jean-Pierre Blanchard paints to music right before the public’s very eyes. The result turns out to be a portrait of a world-famous artist.

Corinne Sutter. With her appearance on the casting show “Die grössten Schweizer Talente” (Switzerland’s Got Talent), the graphic artist and all-around artist has built a global fan base of millions on the internet. In the display window of the Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel, the live caricaturist will offer audiences a taste of her astonishing action painting skills.

Photo box. Get your picture taken. You can pose for a photo as a charming mermaid or a dignified merman. Of course you can take this unique portrait with you as a souvenir of this unforgettable evening.

Plate juggling. Be mesmerized by flying saucers. Plate juggler Mr. Plate can balance plates of any shape or form. You can even try it yourself. Mr. Plate is not averse to touching in the slightest. And neither are his flying objects. A true plate dance that plays out right before your very eyes.

Fish racing. It’s Formula 1, but for fish. Fish out a specimen and put yourself in the running. In the Fish Grand Prix, remote-controlled fish will be giving you a run for your money – not model cars. The winners will win a small prize, plus the grand applause of the audience. Dive in and leave everyone else in the dust.

Shard puzzle. Shards are known to bring good luck. Get some for yourself by putting our broken fish plates back together. If the task turns out to be too easy for you, time yourself and compete against your friends.

Drill simulator. Reel in the fattest fish. Or at least give it a try. At the drill simulator you can try pulling fish from the water by repeatedly releasing and pulling in the fishing line to tire them out. What’ll it be then? Shark, tuna or mackerel? Your choice.

Fish plate workshop. With their mystical ocean life, decorative dolphins and mysterious mythical creatures, fish plates have held a special fascination for people over the centuries. In our workshop you can get to the bottom of this wondrous sorcery. Participants big and small can put their own imaginative story on a fish plate. Everything you need is provided. You can of course take your creations home with you.

Fish game. Moby Dick would have done well in this game. Try to take part like a pro and become the fishing king or queen. How many fish can you catch on your hook? Hope you have a good catch – as leaving empty-handed would surely bug you.

Tattoos. Mermaid or merman, that’s the question. The temporary tattoos can be easily applied to the upper arm or forearm and are skin-friendly. And the effect you get is really cool.

Reel in a gift, while supplies last. The show-stopper of the night. Catch a coral fish or shark fish hat. But remember, only while supplies last.
